Tierkreis, opus 41 by Karlheinz Stockhausen
Traum über das All by Jean Paul
for the Documenta IX, Kassel

“Eurythmists, musicians, lighting technicians as well as an actor and a costume designer studied Karlheinz Stockhausen’s Opus 41, the “Tierkreis”, and Jean Paul’s “Traum über das All” taken from the latter’s most recent novel. The result was an unusual evening of dance…

…the dancers who also developed the choreography: Gia van den Akker, Charlotte Frisch, Bettina Grube, Eduardo Jenaro and Alexander Seeger. They seem to move about confused and uncoordinated, drawing scraps of melody into the air, gathering together for a vivacious dance, as if swimming in elegiac music, presenting an operetta-like melody, rising into turnings, mischievously playing with one another and concluding with the fanfare tones of a lion.”
